Andrea Strongwater > Old European Synagogues
In this collection I recreate synagogues that were destroyed in the 1930’s and 1940’s in Europe. I work from old black and white photos. The goal is to give these buildings a new life.

Danzig Germany is now Gdansk Poland. This was a Reform Synagogue built in 1887. It was home to 2000 congregants, a museum, lecture and concert spaces. After vandalizing the building, the Nazi dominated local government demolished it on May 2, 1939. The site remains vacant.
